In the Fields of the Sonoma Valley

In the Fields, is a food production complex project in Sonoma Valley, California.
With the intent of being nested in the fields mimicking the flatness of the area, the project aims at orchestrating a fluid and uninterrupted movement between the orchards and the relationship of food production and the land.

For a visitor, the experience starts with the food market, straddling between the fields, the education space, the open kitchen, the tower, a multi-function room and visiting chef's home-stay.
With no change of levels, the visitors understand the micro-climates of each function by the articulation of the roof. The roof itself is designed to respond to the program while acting as a blanket on a table, it becomes the program when seated on the ground.

Role: Co-designed with Luis Suarez. This project was a nominated for a Jury Award.

Early site research identified the directionality of the sun and the location of the mountains which influences the location of the building.
Environmental analysis and the layout of the orchard helped define the programmatic organization.

The building connects a food market, a kitchen incubator, a demonstration area, an event space, a tasting area, and a greenhouse to orchards around the site.
